Youth Employment Project.
SUMMARY OF PROJECT:
Creating and facilitating employment opportunity for five thousand youth by the Africane Youth Organizing Committee (AYOC) in Ghana that is project coverage area, zone one. This will include: Building up initial capital base for four thousand unskilful youth labour force, 70% being women (female) and 30% men (male).
Building up a capital base for five hundred skilled youth.
And assisting five hundred youth to acquire skill vocation. In totality, five thousand youth would benefit from this youth employment project.
Specific Problem or Challenges.Generally, African’s and for that matter “Ghanaians” are poor and mostly the needy people situation on poverty, hunger as a result of unemployment is really terrible when the real situation on the ground are observed physically. AYOC base line research detected that, the unemployment issues do not only let the ordinary people suffer but rather it has other negative implications on our socio-economic impacts in societies.
Other pertinent problems, which have necessitated for this youth employment project outlined during AYOC research in a form of interview with some youth were;
(a) 84 people out of hundred unskilled youth interview ranging from 18 years to 39 years roaming in the streets and within the societies are jobless. The fact of the matter is that, some expressed the zeal to learn a skilled vocation but can not afford the financial involvement.
(b) Besides, others exhibited the idea of trading but they lacked initial capital base. It was found out in the research that most youth who even have parents and relatives could no way secure loan from the bank due to their low or no good financial status and low educational background. Hence, most people interviewed stand no credibility to secure loan from bank for ventures.
(c) Still with problems which necessitated for the birth of this project, the interview review that, unemployment has made 94 out of 100 people (youth) homeless and lead others into undesirable vocation.
(d) Some people (youth) with small capital base and are putting in all forms of effort and seriousness in their work yet are not making any meaningful impact in their living condition due to the inadequate capital for their business.
(e) On more serious note, youth with no initial capital, no work and no hope for future financial assistance from anywhere are becoming people with no sense of direction which is a huge problem to Africa continent hence, Ghana.
(f) The most painful aspect of the interview carried out was that, almost 80% of youth who are more energetic and capable of producing food and meat for human consumption (entering into farming) are living idle with no hope of prosperity in their life. Meanwhile, a lot of Ghanaians and Africans are suffering from hunger and poor nutrition that is leading into unhealthy conditions.
(f) Again, some skilled youth interviewed have no funds to open their own small workshop in other to make use of their vocation learnt to the benefit of people and impacting the skills acquired onto others.
In summary, the situation / problem were
(a) There has been an increased rate of unemployment in Ghana.
(b) Secondly, there is a reduce level of capital availability for both skilled and unskilled youth labour force in Ghana.
(c) Increasing rate of unskilled labour force.
(d) Ultimately, there has been high rate of youth unemployment.
Specific Activities To Be Performed By AYOC.To Curb These Above Statement Of Problems.
Though the unemployment problem could not be solve entirely overnight, but AYOC has some activities to be performed in order to reduce the situation and relief some poor Ghanaian from poverty.
· AYOC will mobilise unskilled people, identity their area of work interest and provide capital base for four thousand of them. Periodically, Consultancy service would be engaged to run training course for beneficiaries on how to manage their capital, how to expand (plough back system) the base of businesses and AYOC means of revolving the funds so that others could be helped as well.
· AYOC will ensure that unskilled youth interested in acquiring a vocation or a skill profession would be given the opportunity under this project.
· Skilled youth like hairdressers, carpenters and others would be assisted under this project to establish their own individual workshops. And where necessary a joint workshop would be encouraged. But, AYOC would vigilantly ensure that any amount invested is revolve to support other annual budget required this will raise the capital for the project.
· In collaboration with ministry of agricultural, AYOC would assist unskilled youth who are interested in farming. The services of Agric extension officers would be engage to play an advisory, training and monitoring role for youth in this particular sector.
God helps AYOC to achieve the desired goals in order to relief the rural poor.
Strategies To Get Beneficiaries Actively Involves In The Project.
For such project to achieve expected goals, it needs tactful approach, technical strategies for proper means of selecting beneficiaries and monitoring their activities. Below are some of the unique strategies AYOC would apply in getting qualify beneficiaries actively involve and monitoring their activities properly;
(a) First of all, media announcement would be made in the respective regions/areas on the availability of such fund and thorough education will be ensured as to who qualifies to benefit. Then applicants would be asked to fill out forms free of charge. On the forms, some vital information shall be required pertaining to the applicants name, ages, hometown, contact address, parents, work of interest, educational background and other relevant ones. AYOC Adhoc follow-up committee will verify if applicant qualifies for such assistance. Should the follow-up prove an amount of credibility then the due cause will be pursued.
(b) More importantly, AYOC would have personnel on the ground searching for more qualify people. This AYOC believe the true qualified ones shall be engage into this project.
(c) AYOC personnel’s would be trained on professionalism in the application. Any one seen or caught of misapplication of fund to unqualified applicants and to favourites or family members will be strictly dealt with accordingly project by law.
(d) All qualify applicants would be grouped according to people with the same work line so that employment training Consultancy service will be arrange to undertake this project beneficiaries through some basics in business or the job they are up to. Periodic reports and statistics on work in progress will be drawn according to the batch of applicants. Last list of beneficiaries and other necessary information and progress will be computerised.
(e) All process, interviews, etc will film on video tape and other documents or report sent to donors to view the output of this donations or financial assistance given.
Expected Project Impact (Result of Project) Truly, the impact, which this project would yield, shall be so resourceful and some Ghanaians will be relief from absolute poverty by experiencing a worthy living condition. Now, beneficiaries and their dependants will anticipate a brighter future, feel God’s intervention and appreciate donor care and support into their living conditions.
Youth Would Be Relief On Over Interdependence With this youth employment project in-place, most youth will now be able to care for themselves in a form of buying their own food (reducing hunger), cloths to wear, pay utility bills, buy drugs when fall sick (living a comfortable life).
Reduction of Poverty The extreme poverty generally experience among Africans, hence Ghanaians as a result of unemployment would now be reduced since this project will avail capital for business to enhance productivity for small business so as to meet the youth willingness in working. Also, successful beneficiaries shall duly offer assistance to those immediate people around them (brother, sister, neighbour) because they would have good financial stand after exploring the funds well.
Reducing The Level Of Unemployment Factually, the existence and proper operation of this youth employment project would help reduce the rate of unemployment. Addition to this the project shall contribute to UNITED NATIONS and international labour organisation as well as local African governments’ effort/policies put in place to combat unemployment and poverty.
Still With Impact Of The ProjectThis project will curtail and possibly change the act of bad behaviour exhibited by some youth due to lost in sense of direction as a result of hunger, poverty and ultimately unemployment. In addition, this project will secure the education of some children because, their parents (married youth ranging from 25 to 39 years) would now be capable of meeting their educational needs whether by single parenthood or otherwise. Meaning the project has help such beneficiaries into a rewarding job now.
Contributing To National DevelopmentAgain, government tax revenue collection will increase because beneficiaries of this project fund shall under go training course and topics would emphasis on how to register business (work) when experience progress and payment of taxes as well. This will assist government to undertake some of its developmental programmes and project.
Inspire / Encourage Good Behaviour Among YouthSome forms of bad behaviour among youth as a result of unemployment will immensely reduce gradually since the youth that involve themselves in these bad behaviours do act out of frustration, hunger, poverty, jobless etc. The existence of the project will be an asset to Ghana not liability. In a nutshell (summary), the resourceful impacts expected from the project are;(b) Reduction of poverty leading to poor living condition, health condition. (c) Reduce the high rate of unemployment.(d) Contribute to government poverty reduction programmes.(e) Encourage good behaviour among youth etc.
Evaluation of Youth Employment Project.Working around the clock, below are some of the policies or strategies been comprehensible to know or evaluate the achieved desirable impacts considering the execution of this project. Hence, how to evaluate the success of this project are;
A. Statistic Achievement Evaluation in Collaboration with Ministry of Employment or Manpower Development: AYOC would work out statistically the rate at which youth unemployment is being reduce with respect to the number of beneficiaries (youth) AYOC has assisted so far in this youth employment project. This will enhance our means of education.
B. Administrative Level: As part of evaluation, in six months time/period after commencing this project, the administrative procedure and policies apply to the running of project would be assess to know if there has been any limitation or problems with it. If any, an Adhoc committee made up of consultants will be engaged to prune-down or restructure where deem important. The restructuring or terms of reference for the Adhoc committee will range from AYOC personnel’s reaching out to real qualify or expected applicants, application of the funds, fund disbursement, monitoring beneficiaries, means of revolving the funds. Any new development would be made known to funder(s).
